Dating Archetypes
Torpe
"A guy who is too shy, afraid, or cowardly to confess his feelings to a girl."
Who is Torpe?
A torpe (tor-peh) is the classic Filipino archetype of the shy suitor. He is deeply in love but lacks the courage to make a move. He’s often the “best friend” who watches the girl fall for someone else because he never spoke up.
Why is Torpe common?
- Fear of Rejection: The fear of getting basted is paralyzing.
- Respect/Modesty: Sometimes, being too respectful can cross the line into inaction.
- Insecurity: Feeling “not good enough” for the girl.
Overcoming being Torpe
If you are being called torpe, it’s a wake-up call!
- Just do it: The regret of not knowing is worse than rejection.
- Start small: Show interest through actions first, then words.
- Be confident: Confidence is attractive. Torpe energy is not.
