What is a Monthsary?
A combine of “month” and “anniversary,” a monthsary is exactly what it sounds like: a celebration of the day of the month you and your partner became official. While anniversaries are standard worldwide, the Filipino dating culture takes the monthsary very seriously, especially in the first year of a relationship.
Why is it Important?
In the Philippines, love is celebrated often and enthusiastically. A year is a long time to wait to celebrate a milestone!
- It shows consistency: Remembering the date shows you care.
- It keeps the kilig alive: Small celebrations keep the romance burning.
How to Celebrate?
You don’t need to break the bank every month.
- Food: A nice dinner or even a simple food delivery date.
- Greeting: A sweet text message at 12:00 AM is often expected.
- Small Gifts: Flowers, chocolates, or a heartfelt letter.
Tip: Do NOT forget the first few monthsaries. It is a major red flag if you do!
