KKB

"Kanya-Kanyang Bayad; 'To each his/her own payment'. The Filipino term for splitting the bill."

What is KKB?

KKB stands for Kanya-Kanyang Bayad. It essentially means “Dutch Treat” or splitting the bill.

When is KKB acceptable?

  • Casual Hangouts: With friends or colleagues.
  • Established Relationships: Long-term couples often share expenses.

When is KKB NOT acceptable?

  • First Dates: In traditional Filipino dating culture, the man is expected to pay (libre) for the first date.
  • Inviting someone out: If you invited them, you pay.
  • Mamanhikan: The suitor’s family always brings the food/pays.

Warning: Suggesting KKB on a first date with a traditional Filipina is a fast way to get basted!
